The Chromatics

Saturday, December 21st at 8:00pm and Sunday, December 22nd at 2:00pm

The Chromatics return to the Greenbelt Arts Center with their entertaining variety of a cappella songs, from covers spanning the past several decades to original songs, and, of course, a selection of holiday tunes in all styles! They promise a festive show, a real Yuletide Sampler!

This is the call for show submissions for Greenbelt Arts Center’s 41^st Season in 2020-2021.  Please click on this link to go to the project submission form if you have a proposal for an in-house production, guest theater organization, special events, or rentals during the 2020-2021 season (starting September 2020.) Auditions – The Children’s Hour

The Greenbelt Arts Center announces upcoming auditions for its production of Lillian Hellman’s The Children’s Hour, directed by Pauline Griller-Mitchell

The play, which premiered in 1934, was a professional success for the playwright, Lillian Hellman. Set in a private school for girls, the play explores how lying, bullying, and the insidious effect of slanderous innuendo can upend plans and lives.

Auditions will be held at the Greenbelt Arts Center, located at 123 Centerway, Greenbelt, MD, 20771, on Saturday, February 1, between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, February 2, starting at 7:00 p.m. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Monday, February 3, at 7:00 p.m. Call the producer, Malca Giblin, at 301-864-3060, for more information.

Rehearsals will be held two nights and on Saturdays each week to start then three nights and Saturdays from mid-March, leading up to nine performances beginning on April 17 and ending on May 3. Be prepared to detail all conflicts you may have throughout the rehearsal and performance schedule.

Character Descriptions:
Martha Dobie – Described as a nervous, high-strung woman, she is one of the founders of the Wright-Dobie School. She is about the same age, 28, as . . .

Karen Wright – The other co-founder of the Wright-Dobie School. She has a casually warm and pleasant manner that the girls in the school respond to and respect.

Mrs. Lily Mortar – Martha’s aunt is “a woman of a certain age,” 45 or older. She is a faded actress, “helping” at the school for the time being. She is over the top in appearance and manner.

Dr. Joseph Cardin – He has several ties to the school: he is the school doctor; his aunt is one of school’s prime patrons, and his cousin, Mary, attends the school and he is engaged to marry Karen Wright.

Mary Tilford – Mary is a headstrong girl whose behavior strongly influences the behavior of the other girls and creates problems for the school.

Mrs. Amelia Tilford – Mary’s grandmother and Dr. Cardin’s aunt was an early supporter of the school. She wields a lot of influence.

Peggy Rogers, Catherine, Lois Fisher, Evelyn Munn, Helen Burton, Rosalie Wells, Janet, Leslie – Students at the Wright-Dobie School. They are, to varying degrees, subject to Mary’s influence

Agatha – Agatha is Mrs. Tilford’s long-time maid. She knows Mary’s ways and won’t make allowances for her behavior.

A Grocery Boy – He makes deliveries to the school.
