ABOUT THE ARTIST

Dave Campbell, an artist and Greenbelt resident, is currently displaying some of his paintings in the Lobby of the Greenbelt Arts Center.

When Dave and his wife, Joyce, moved to Greenbelt seven years ago they found much to love besides good neighbors.  With its woods, skies, houses, trees, sheds, gardens, parks, playgrounds, and residents walking dogs, talking with neighbors, or riding bicycles, he found his neighborhood in old Greenbelt to be a rich store of visual interest and meaning.

ABOUT THE ART

“As a landscape painter, I am more interested in portraying the ordinary, what I see every day on my walks, than I am in traveling to distant, exotic places to paint. I find that the same tree or house or street near home when seen often and at different times of the day or year can be a completely different sight. What is mundane or boring one time may be mysterious or beautiful in different light or from a new angle. I try to capture that subtlety in paintings and want to learn how to do it better.”
